About Mental Health - Acute Inpatient services at Monash Health

Monash Health is an impressive organisation of seven public hospitals, 21 community health sites, five aged care facilities, university affiliated international research and tertiary education. We provide healthcare for the entire lifespan from pre-birth to palliative care and all stages in between.

Our Mental Health Acute services provide short term inpatient care and treatment during the critical phase of mental illness until management within the community is a safe option. With a range of therapeutic interventions and programs, both patients and families are able to have support and learn about the impact of mental health diagnosis and develop coping strategies to better manage their recovery in the community.

Monash Health has numerous Acute Adult inpatient units:

  • Monash Medical Centre, Clayton - P Block, 31 bed Inpatient unit

  • Casey Hospital - Ward E, a 30 bed unit + 5 step down beds within a medical ward

  • Dandenong Hospital - Unit 1, 25 bed Inpatient unit 

All sites include component Intensive Care Areas.

About The Role

We are excited to announce that we are seeking qualified Psychiatric Nurses to join our Adult Inpatient Units with opportunities across Monash Health. We have opportunities of both Full and Part Time to work across rotational rosters of all shifts.

The Psychiatric Nurses support patients and families during crisis and transition periods of their mental illness, considering a persons, physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. The Nurses are responsive and flexible in coordinating and delivering recovery orientated quality care. Psychiatric Nurses work collaboratively with consumers providing education, and support their personal recovery journey through the therapeutic process in the clinical environment.

About You

Bringing your, compassion and genuine interest into Mental Health nursing care, you understand the Roles and responsibilities of mental health nurses working in an acute mental health setting.

You are a dynamic, key team player dedicated to continual professional improvement of your skills and knowledge as a Mental Health Nurse.

You also have:

  • Current Australian AHPRA nursing registration

  • Demonstrated Nursing experience, in an Acute Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Unit or have successfully completed a Mental Health Graduate Nursing Program

  • Evidence of commitment in working towards a profession in Mental Health Nursing which may include commencement of a Diploma/Masters in Mental Health nursing

  • Willingness to take on a portfolio(s) contributing to ward quality improvements, and reducing restrictive interventions.
