The successful applicant will be working in an collaborative team environment and will enjoy researching and analyzing information.

The Research Policy Officer will work as part of a high performing team to deliver a number of complex projects to improve building outcomes, with a focus on firms, practitioners and complementary regulatory systems. Workstreams within the team include:

  • Researching issues with insolvency across the sector, including payments to subcontractors through Security of Payment Act arrangements;
  • Understanding the interfaces between the building and planning regulatory system and identifying areas that may be considered by government for improvement;
  • Identifying arrangements to better support the professional indemnity insurance market; and
  • A Review of Ministerial Guidelines, which covers certification of engineering design and professional standards for building surveyors.

This work includes researching and developing policy options in a collaborative culture, preparing advice on required operational and / or legislative changes, preparing briefings and correspondence for Ministers and executives. This work also includes supporting the team to influence and negotiate across a wide range of government and industry stakeholders to gain agreement to proposals to achieve effective building policy and regulatory outcomes. 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Experience in the research and development of policy initiatives and projects in a State or Commonwealth public service setting is highly desirable.

This is a fixed term until 30 June 2023.
