There is a current vacancy for a fixed term full time Grade 3 Scientist for the role of ‘Fit Test Coordinator / Respiratory Scientist’ in the Respiratory Laboratory, Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine (40 hours per week with ADO).

The Austin Respiratory Laboratory is a centre for excellence. As part of a teaching hospital, this large clinical laboratory service performs a comprehensive range of patient testing. The laboratory plays a cornerstone role in the department and has links to the wider hospital service as well as having links to other clinical services and academic institutions. It provides services to the state-wide Victorian Respiratory Support Service and has a proud association with the Institute for Breathing and Sleep.

The Respiratory Lab is expanding to incorporate fit testing of staff to ensure proper N95/P2 mask fit.

As such, this vacancy represents an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified scientist to establish and coordinate this service under the direction of the Senior Scientist, Respiratory Lab in collaboration with the Respiratory Protection Program Coordinator. Coordination will include the day-to-day operation of the Fit Testing Service and contribution to the review, enhancement, and reporting of the service.  Involvement in respiratory function testing is also anticipated once the service is established and staff rotation is feasible.

The successful applicant will have substantial relevant or translatable experience and enjoy the combination of technical, inter-personal, clinical and physiology skills required for the position and be able to work outside normal hours, at times, to ensure adequate accessibility of the service for all staff.

Fit testing experience is desirable, although full training can be provided.

Work with us! Your reward is to work in a collaborative environment which will provide you with opportunities for ongoing training and development. Your benefits will include salary packaging, and employee assistance program.

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory National Police Check conducted by Austin Health and a Working With Children Check.

Austin Health is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community we serve. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged.
