About Us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety's (the department) Operation COVID-19 Accommodation group (the group) leads the implementation of the Victorian Government's COVID-19 Accommodation Program. The group is responsible for the design and delivery of several key accommodation initiatives designed to address the risk to the community posed by COVID-19.


About the role

The role of the Senior Adviser, Policy and Strategy involves providing support and advice to the Office of the Deputy Secretary – COVID-19 Accommodation (DSO) including coordinating a range of portfolio responses. As well as applying policy, research and strategic expertise to advise on and respond to key issues, challenges and opportunities across the portfolio. You will also contribute to the management and improvement of DSO and group workflow and organisational planning and change initiatives.

This role reports to the Senior Strategic Adviser, DSO and operates in a complex and dynamic environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, liaise with and manage relationships with key stakeholders and undertake effective, timely actions.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide high-level, authoritative support and advice to the DSO on complex and sensitive matters.
  • Provide coordination, advice and assistance, incorporating high level analysis and quality control on potentially complex and sensitive matters that fall under the responsibility of the DSO.
  • Support the management of the daily flow, allocation and quality of products received by the DSO including Parliamentary matters, briefings, submissions and correspondence within applicable timeframes, with escalation to the Senior Strategic Adviser as required.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and awareness of the key issues impacting on the portfolio.
  • Demonstrated policy development, conceptual thinking and analysis capability, including the ability to achieve objectives within tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and actively engage internal and external stakeholders.


A tertiary qualification law, politics, sociology or economics is preferred but not essential.
