Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV) is seeking a talented Senior Communications Adviser to develop and implement effective communication strategies to support and promote IRV's policies and projects.

IRV provides strategic industrial relations policy and technical advice to government and departments, with a focus on fostering a framework based on consultation, cooperation and good faith bargaining. IRV engages with employers, employees and their unions to promote a positive industrial relations environment.

As the Senior Communications Adviser, you will manage a discrete communications function to provide high-level strategy development, risk and issues management, community engagement, and a range of media and communications content, including maintaining a digital media presence.

You will provide specialist communications advice and professional leadership, developing communications strategies to support IRV's policy initiatives and projects, and prepare quality written communications materials on a range of complex and/or sensitive issues ensuring they are appropriate for their audience and that messaging is consistent.

The role is fixed term for 18 months.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • experience in issues management and communications, with proven ability to prepare and implement strategies and provide strategic advice in a complex and issues-rich environment
  • experience in identifying media and communications risks and opportunities, and developing effective mitigation strategies and solutions
  • strong communication skills, with the ability to produce and present high-quality written public information to a range of audiences
  • the ability to lead and manage a specialist communications function
  • excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to set priorities and manage tasks under pressure and to tight deadlines.

A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as journalism, public relations, communications or marketing would be advantageous.
