About the Role

As a Senior Departmental Liaison Officer, you will serve as the vital link between the Minister's office and the Department, you will also be the architect of seamless information flow, navigating the intricate landscape of briefings, correspondence and lead process improvements. Dive into the fast-paced world of relationship and people management to craft solutions that are pivotal to the effective management of information. The position may have line management responsibilities for a small team of Departmental staff.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Build strong working relationships between the Minister’s office, the Department and other ministerial offices, as required.
  • Manage and lead a small team of Departmental staff.
  • Manage and coordinate administrative, communication requirements, protocols and provide decision making advice between the Minister’s office and the Department.
  • Develop strategies and solutions that contribute to the effective management of information between the department and ministerial offices.
  • Provide high level and proactive and authoritative advice to the Secretary, senior departmental officers and ministerial staff on relevant administrative and other matters.
  • Liaise effectively across the DLO network, and with staff at all levels in the Group and the Department.

  • Project Delivery (Applied): Defines tasks to be delivered to meet agreed outcomes; Coordinates and guides others in the execution of work activities; Monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required.
  • Communicate with Impact (Applied): Prepares and delivers logical sequential and succinct presentations; Uses clear and concise language; Uses media appropriate to the audience and presents information to develop the understanding of the topic

Qualifications and Experience


  • Understanding of the functions and operation of government.  
  • Ability to provide high level advice on procedures and requirements in relation to Government matters. 
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office 365 and Government eBriefings system (or similar
