Opportunity to join the Family Law Melbourne team in the role of Senior Family Lawyer.

  • Full time (part time considered) maximum term position up to 12 months
  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $91,334 - $114,165 (pro rata) plus superannuation

About the role
You will provide high quality legal services including legal advice, duty lawyer services, casework, representation and undertake negotiation and dispute resolution on behalf of clients in family law and family violence intervention order matters including pre-court advice as a part of the Early Resolution Service. You will appear as an advocate in intervention order and family law proceedings at the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the Melbourne Magistrates' Court to effectively advocate for legal aid clients.

As a senior member of the team, you will contribute to the professional development of the in-house legal practice by mentoring and supervising less experienced lawyers and participate in community legal education projects as required. You will also assist in the development and implementation of strategies and policies to improve client service including community legal education projects, law reform and other VLA projects. A key focus of this role will be on the early resolution of cases and providing pre-court advice.

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge and advocacy experience in family law, family violence intervention order matters and relevant court procedures. You will have the technically proficiency to conduct quality case work in complex family law matters. You will possess leadership capabilities and have the ability to supervise and mentor staff, as well as initiate and implement policies to enhance the delivery of our services.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels. You will have the ability to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to foster a supportive team environment. You will also demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
