Act as a senior lawyer by providing expert advice and representation in complex civil matters.

About the role:
You will act as a senior lawyer by providing expert advice and representation in complex civil law matters, primarily in the area of discrimination law. You will also assist the Program Manager to undertake strategic advocacy that promotes equality, particularly through law and policy reform.

You will play a role in supervising, training and mentoring lawyers and team members, and assist in the development of strategies to improve client services relating to the Equality Law Program.

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge and practical experience in civil law and relevant court and tribunal procedures, with extensive knowledge of equality and anti-discrimination law. You will be able to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues relating to equality and demonstrate an understanding of the role of external stakeholders in the delivery of legal aid services.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, from a range of lived experiences and backgrounds including experiencing social and economic disadvantage, and stakeholders at all levels. You will be a team player with the ability to work collaboratively in working towards responding to the needs of clients. You will also demonstrate a commitment to promoting VLA's vision and values.
