Provide high-quality and authoritative strategic policy advice to deliver key projects and outcomes, including the preparation of government submissions, business cases and reports, responses to issues papers and implementation plans.

The Senior Policy Officer is part of the Fire and Emergency Management Policy branch, within the Policy and Planning division in DELWP's Forest, Fire and Regions group. The position is part of the Fire Legislative & Regulatory Policy unit, which provides advice and develops legislation, regulation and appropriate implementation tools, including the Bushfire Code of Practice and other key reforms in response to inquiries into the 2019-20 bushfires.

The Senior Policy Officer will work collaboratively across the division, with key partners within and externally to DELWP, to meet priority objectives. The position will help ensure there is an effective framework in place to manage bushfire risk, delivering whole-of-government outcomes and contributing to the integration of fire and forest policy.

In this role, you will build relationships and use influence to further policy objectives. The position requires strong policy and critical thinking skills, contextual awareness to navigate a dynamic environment, in addition to project management skills, to ensure advice is timely and well-targeted and initiatives are delivered successfully.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in public policy, law, natural resource or environmental management or similar is desirable.
  • Experience and knowledge of legislative review and amendment processes and/or the current policy context for bushfire and land management in Victoria is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2022.
