The role:

The Senior Policy Officer position sits within the Forest, Fire and Regions Group (FFRG) Fire and Emergency Management Policy Branch, within the Policy and Planning Division. The division is an important part of the group, playing a key role in enabling the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP) to efficiently, effectively and safely meet its forest, fire and emergency management responsibilities.

The Senior Policy Officer plays a leadership role in the Emergency Management and Recovery Policy Unit, in the development, maintenance and communication of policies, operational frameworks and guidance for fire and emergency management. This position has a particular focus on leading an all-hazards approach to emergency management policy for planning and preparadness across DELWP. This includes the development and translation of policy, strategy and the department's legislative accountabilities to support operational program delivery.

About you:

  • The position requires an individual with strong policy and project management skills, who can effectively communicate, negotiate and build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders across DELWP and the broader emergency management sector.
  • You will also have good analytical and problem-solving skills and enjoy working through complex issues.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in science, engineering, law, economics, public policy, natural resource or environmental management, business management or similar is desirable.
  • Experience and knowledge of land management and/or emergency management is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available until 2 September 2022.
