The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) works hard to create equal opportunities for all Victorians to live a safe, respected and valued life. Our areas of focus are child protection, housing, disability, the prevention of family violence, multicultural affairs, LGBTQI+ equality, veterans, women and youth. The work we do benefits thousands of Victorians, particularly those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable. We work in a variety of community-based settings, including people's homes, residential facilities and secure settings across metropolitan, rural and regional Victoria. We are committed to developing and supporting a workforce that is well equipped and highly motivated. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we encourage applications from Aboriginal people and people from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intergovernmental Relations team is responsible for the provision of strategic advice on interjurisdictional policy issues related to children and families, and disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This includes negotiating funding agreements with the Commonwealth, influencing national policy agendas, and managing Victorian's representation on interjurisdictional bodies. The branch provides strategic leadership for priority negotiations such as disability reform, and housing and homelessness. This work is undertaken in strong collaboration with others across the department and central agencies, and other departments when cross-portfolio collaboration is required. The unit also leads the department's response to National Cabinet.

As part of the team, you:

  • support key policy projects to support the achievement of Victoria's objectives on national policy issues.
  • support the provision of high-quality strategic advice and analysis on key intergovernmental issues, in close partnership with stakeholders both within the department and externally, as well other key issues such as Commonwealth Budgets and reviews, and Federal elections.
  • support the manager to oversee and coordinate the management of briefing processes for key interjurisdictional meetings, develop strategic briefings, and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders to support Senior Executives and Ministers.
  • analyse and coordinate complex information; liaise with, negotiate with, and influence key stakeholders; write succinct and high-quality briefs and reports on complex issues; and be pro-active in developing strategic solutions and resolving intergovernmental issues as they arise.

HOW TO APPLY:

Applicants are encouraged to apply online, submitting a cover letter and a current resume.

Please note: For this position, you are not required to address each of the key selection criteria in a separate written document.
