About the role:

As a senior member of the Policy and Legislation Division, this newly created VPS5 position will lead the policy and project coordination functions which support Victoria Police's engagement in Parliamentary Inquiries at a State and Commonwealth level, as well as major law reform reviews including large-scale references being undertaken by the Victorian Law Reform Commission and other key agencies.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Policy and Legislation Division, this position will engage widely across Victoria Police to ensure that the organisation can extract maximum benefit from major reform opportunities, in response to an increasing demand for Victoria Police involvement in key parliamentary and government processes, alongside other Australian law enforcement, criminal intelligence and domestic security agencies.

Your duties will include:

  • Coordination and workflow management of written and verbal strategic policy advice to support the Chief Commissioner of Police, Executive Command and Minister for Police and Emergency Services regarding Victoria Police's involvement in Parliamentary Inquiries, and major externally-driven reform opportunities

  • Identifying, assessing and responding to a range of external law reform opportunities, of strategic and operational significance to Victoria Police

  • Wide-ranging internal and external consultation, including working collaboratively with the Department of Justice and Community Safety to progress Victoria Police-driven reform

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Prior exposure to Government, Cabinet and political process preferable

  • A practical understanding of the Parliamentary and Committee system

  • Experience in providing high-level written and verbal strategic policy advice at an executive level

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One fulltime, ongoing position available.

  • This position is located at the Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.

  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.

  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
