The roles will lead the upskilling of their colleagues in the Diverse Learners Hub (Hub) to continually build their autism and learning difficulties expertise, provide strategic advice to support consideration of diverse learners in a range of Department initiatives and will ensure new Hub resources are based on sound educational practice and evidence relating to students with learning difficulties or autism. There are two positions, one requiring autism specialisation, the other learning difficulties specialisation.

Senior Professional Practice Officer - Ongoing/Full time 

An exciting opportunity exists to work as part of a team to design and establish the new Diverse Learners Hub (Hub). The Hub will equip the education workforce to meet the educational needs of students with learning difficulties, with a focus on neurodevelopmental differences such as dyslexia, autism, dyscalculia, and ADHD (‘diverse learners'). It will be a game changer for diverse learners, their families and school staff. 

The Senior Professional Practice Officers' responsibilities will include: 

  • Leading professional learning to enable their Hub colleagues continually build their autism and learning difficulties expertise, based on evolving evidence and external expert support 
  • Supporting Hub colleagues to provide evidence-based advice on relevant Department capability building, practice improvement and support initiatives to ensure consistent consideration of the educational needs of diverse learners 
  • Providing advice to inform the development of new Hub supports and resources for the education workforce. 

The successful candidates will have expertise in autism or learning difficulties and will have a tertiary qualification in education. They will have strong stakeholder management, collaboration and analytical skills. Experience working in schools (including mainstream schools) is desirable but not required. The role may require travel within Victoria.
