What You Will Be Doing

The Access and Assessment Team (AAT) is a community based, initial assessment and brief intervention service that responds to clients, aged 16-64, who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness or crisis and require an assessment within 24-72 hours. The brief intervention component aims to provide the necessary psychological support to clients so that they can cope and recover from their episode of mental illness or crisis in an effective way and prevent further mental health deterioration, including responding appropriately to suicide and self-harm risk.

Within AAT, the senior psychologist provides time-limited, individual psychological treatment, as indicated following assessment. Within this work, the senior psychologist can draw upon a range of different therapeutic models (within their scope of practice). The senior psychologist holds a leadership role, consulting on the psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, and treatment needs for all clients in AAT. Further, they are involved in the training and supervision of other members of the team to deliver strategy-based interventions, such as emotional regulation and impulse control, crisis intervention or distress tolerance skills. Supervising psychology students on placement is also part of the role

What You Need

• Registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
• Extensive experience as a fully registered psychologist.
• Endorsement as a clinical or forensic psychologist.
• PBA approved supervisor (or enrolled to obtain).
• Experience in working in mental health or equivalent setting .
• Experience of delivering brief interventions.
