Job location

Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria's 14 prisons. This position is based on the Erskine (sub-acute) unit of Ravenhall Correctional Centre. Located in Melbourne's west, Ravenhall Correctional Centre provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services provided in maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison. The Erskine unit provides bed-based care to male prisoners in the acute/subacute phase of mental illness. Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.

About the Role:

The Senior Psychologist on the Erskine unit works with sub-acute mentally disordered patients/prisoners as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Providing a high level of clinical psychology expertise and consultation or advice on complex clinical matters; contributing to special projects, committees and working parties within the organisation including the development of policies and procedures; and contributing to the support and functioning of the psychology team across RCC. As a senior professional representative, this position provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders. The Senior Psychologist also participates in the training and supervision of psychology placement students, interns and staff of other disciplines where appropriate.

Duties:

  • Provide an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient/prisoner issues to other clinicians.
  • Provide specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
  • Provide individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate sound communication skills in recording and reporting clinical information to the multi-disciplinary team.

About You:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • A good understanding of the current psychological approaches to working with mentally disordered male patients in the forensic mental health setting
  • Skills in clinical assessment, including the administration and interpretation of psychological tests designed to assess personality, psychopathology, cognitive functioning and risk.

What you need:

  • Hold a Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) or the equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology accredited by APAC or the equivalent.
  • Registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Listed as a registered supervisor (or eligible for being listed) with AHPRA.
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
  • This position is subject to a Police Check.
