The Victims of Crime Commissioner is an independent statutory appointee with responsibilities across the Victims’ Charter Act 2006 and the Victims of Crime Commissioner Act 2015.   • VPS Grade 5: $109,730 - $132,764 plus superannuation.

About the Business Unit:

The Victims of Crime Commissioner (VOCC) is an independent statutory officer who advocates for victims of crime in their dealings with the justice system and government agencies. This means the Commissioner is not part of government or other agencies in the justice system.

The VOCC operates under the Victims of Crime Commissioner Act 2015 (VOCC Act), which empowers them to:

  • monitor and report on how agencies meet their legal obligations under the Victims' Charter
  • investigate complaints from victims of crime who believe their rights and entitlements under the Victims' Charter have not been met by an investigatory body, prosecuting agency and/or victims' service
  • advocate for the respect, recognition and inclusion of victims of crime in the Victorian justice system
  • conduct inquiries into systemic issues that affect large numbers or particular groups of victims of crime in Victoria
  • represent the concerns of victims of crime to government and other decision-making bodies.

The VOCC actively advocates for systemic reforms, such as changes to the law, that bring about cultural change and recognise victims' as participants in the justice system.

About the Role:

As the Senior Regulatory Officer, some of your duties will include:

  • Leading, planning and undertaking projects and initiatives that are consistent with the VOCC regulatory approach
  • Investigating, gathering evidence, and analysing how justice agencies and victims' service are meeting their obligations under the Victims' Charter
  • Identifying emerging complex or highly sensitive issues, risks and trends impacting on the successful progress towards improved victims' experiences within justice and victims' services systems.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Extensive operational experience in a regulatory environment
  • A thorough understanding of the criminal justice system as it relates to victims of crime is highly desirable
  • A strong ability to take into account wider context within the business unit when considering options to resolve issues.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in law, regulatory practice or equivalent is highly desirable.
