POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Solicitor role will report to the Managing Principal Solicitor, Legal Advisory Team within the Legal, Privacy and Integrity Branch. It will provide authoritative, timely and practical legal advice, and take the lead on a variety of legal projects. This role will be required to draft subordinate legislation and prepare drafting instructions and other documents related to the preparation of primary legislation. The role will also be required to manage a range of general litigation matters including administrative law litigation, prosecutions, mental impairment and unfitness to be tried matters and coronial inquiries. The role will be required to provide advice on relevant laws and on legal policy issues that arise in the health, ambulance services, mental health and ageing portfolios. It will also be required to prepare Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions and other written reports and briefings to clients. You will be required to engage and oversee external legal firms to ensure they meet the needs of Departmental clients, and support less experience staff within the team.
