We are seeking a savvy and adaptable commercial lawyer to join our team as a Senior Solicitor in the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.

About the role

The role of Senior Solicitor is a member of the Commercial Law team, which sits within the Legal and Legislation Branch. Our role is to provide high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions. There is always a great variety of interesting work. The Department covers a diverse range of portfolios, including:

The types of legal issues you will deal with are predominantly commercial and contractual matters, and issues arising from the administration of portfolio legislation. You will advise a diverse client group including regional staff, policy officers and decision makers.

As a member of the Branch, you will have the opportunity to do meaningful work that benefits all Victorians.

About you

We welcome applications from commercial lawyers with in-house, government or private law firm experience. To succeed in the role, you will need:

  • Experience in negotiation and drafting a wide range of legal documentation particularly in the commercial context.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and practical advice on legal and commercial issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively with key stakeholders and to provide advice to the senior executive and Ministers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision to manage multiple matters.
  • Ability to work constructively and effectively, managing competing priorities, working within strict timelines, and collaborating with other members of the team.
