About the Business Unit:
Liquor Control Victoria was established on 1 July 2022 and comprises the Victorian Liquor Commission and staff from the Department of Justice and Community Safety. Liquor Control Victoria is responsible for issuing liquor licenses and overseeing industry compliance and enforcement to ensure that Victorians and visitors to the state enjoy safe and responsible liquor licensed environments.
Liquor Control Victoria staff support the independent Victorian Liquor Commission by providing operational and administrative support and by performing various regulatory functions for Victoria's liquor industry.
This is an exciting time to join Liquor Control Victoria. We are strengthening our focus on harm minimisation and assessment of community impacts as part of our regulatory approach following major reforms to liquor licencing laws that commenced in 2022.
About the Role:
In the role of Senior Solicitor, you will use your expertise and experience to provide sound independent and authoritative advice and liaise with persons at senior levels under the strategic direction of the Deputy General Counsel and Director. The Senior Solicitor also prepares briefings on whether or how the Commission should exercise its functions, prepares briefings to counsel, acts as instructing solicitor and, on occasion, represents the Commission before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. The Senior Solicitor also conduct prosecutions on behalf of the Commission. The role requires working to tight deadlines to meet constantly changing priorities and address urgent new and emerging developments, in the evolving area of liquor regulation. In this role, as a senior member of staff, you will also be required to review advice and briefings developed by more junior Solicitors and provide feedback and development.
