Are you looking for a fulfilling and diverse role in the Victorian Public Service? We are looking for an experienced and confident candidate for the role of Senior Technical Officer- Fish Ecology at the Arthur Rylah Institute.

The Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research (ARI) is a leading centre for applied ecological research, with an emphasis on flora, fauna and biodiversity issues. ARI's main focus is on providing strategic research and management advice to answer key questions affecting ecologically sustainable land or water management and resource use policies.

The position of Senior Technical Officer– Fish Ecology is responsible for managing and leading the technical component of the Applied Aquatic Ecology section. The role is required to lead the maintenance of ARI's fleet of vessels and trailers and will assist with the organising of the field work across the ARI's Applied Aquatic Ecology section.

The two key capabilities for this role are

  • Specialist Skills - The position requires specialised knowledge of Radio and Acoustic Telemetry and tagging, PIT Tag Reading Systems, otolith preparation and other aquatic survey techniques.
  • Working Collaboratively - The role is responsible for coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary field teams across multiple ecological research projects and to train staff on the use of all electrofishing equipment.

This is an ongoing position. This position is located at the Arthur Rylah Institute, Heidelberg.
