Monash Tech School is one of ten Tech Schools established across Victoria. Hosted by Monash University and administered by John Monash Science School its partners include seven Year 7-12 secondary schools, three special education schools, Monash Childrens Hospital School and one Year 10-12 specialist Science and Mathematics School, in addition to the City of Monash, Holmesglen Institute, and several industry and research partners.

Monash Tech School offers programs that offer students new STEM opportunities, whether they be incursions, excursions, industry workplace tours, public lectures, or maker faires.

Role

The Technology Coordinator will be responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting Monash Tech School technology assets and infrastructure. The Tech Coordinator will also be required to research, test and integrate technologies into school programs, exposing staff to many new and cutting edge technologies including iOS App development, IOT devices, web design and programming, and 3D printing and laser cutting.

This is an engaging role that will suit a candidate with a creative mindset and a drive to learn and experience new technologies. The successful applicant will be curious, discerning, and a strong communicator.
 

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordination of Tech School assets to support programs
  • Maintenance of digital technologies
  • Assisting staff with the use of technologies
  • Supports the facilitation of small groups of students in the use of technologies
  • Maintenance of ICT assets
  • Creating new and refining existing technology operating procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Investigating technologies for STEM programs
  • Supporting professional placement students
  • Development of new digital technologies
  • Assisting with technology procurement

A successful applicant will have:

  • An interest in working in an educational setting
  • A strong capacity to work collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills, including to a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of ICT solutions and operating platforms (Win/Mac)
  • An ability to work to tight timeframes

  • An ability to be hands-on with technology and adapt its use for changing conditions


Highly desirable:

  • Experience with 3D modelling technologies
  • A Tertiary education in IT or Engineering - Diploma or higher.
  • Experience with Unity 
  • Experience working in a school environment
  • Programming ability

Other Information

Educational Support staff will work with the Monash Tech School Executive and Program Facilitators to ensure all policies and programs are implemented by everyone with a view to maximising the learning experiences which complement and build on existing STEM and Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences curriculums in the Secondary Education Sector.  They must be able to work cooperatively in a complex, busy environment with their colleagues in support of the school¿s mission, its goals and its strategic plan. All ES staff are expected to demonstrate exemplary values and attitudes commensurate with the professional standards of their work, and bring a holistic view to their roles which takes into account the needs and aspirations of all students. All members of staff should understand and commit to the professional expectations outlined in this document. They will thereby play a key role in the delivery of innovative programs to assist secondary students to gain the necessary skills and capabilities required of workers in the future.

 

Temporary transfer of an ongoing employee

An ongoing employee who is the successful applicant for an identified fixed term position of up to 3 years in the Science, Mathematics and associated Technology areas at John Monash Science School, will be temporarily transferred to John Monash Science School for the duration of the vacancy. At the expiration of the fixed period the employee will return to their base school.
