About the role

This roles entails being part of a team that delivers high quality telehealth brief intervention addiction treatment. It is located within Turning Point’s Specialist Clinical Services (SCS) which is based at our Richmond site. At Turning Point there is a focus on providing distance based, accessible, outward bound therapeutic interventions focused on gambling, alcohol and other drugs. The Structured Intervention Team delivers two programs: The Ready 2 Change program and Diversion Counselling program.

The programs focus on providing evidence based treatment to assist individuals to address their addiction concerns. These draw on the principles of harm reduction, Cognitive Behavioural therapies, Motivational Interviewing and trauma informed care. Service delivery functions include conducting assessments, holding a clinical caseload and the provision of specialised interventions delivered via telehealth mediums as directed. The role may also involve participation in research activities as well as contributing to project work as required and provision of support to students on placement within our programs.

This role offers early career psychologists the opportunity to complete the registrar program if required (clinical psychology) as well as access to regular individual supervision, monthly discipline specific psychology meetings as well as all the learning opportunities that being a member of a multidisciplinary team of addiction psychiatrists, addiction medicine specialists, neuropsychologists, nurses and social workers offers. In addition, the Organisation provides a range of training programs which staff can access as part of their professional development plans including specialist training in alcohol and other drug treatment. Development opportunities also exist, as Turning Point operates both a workforce and development team and a nationally recognised research program.

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Evidence that complies with the noted discipline qualifications and registration requirements as noted in the respective Position Descriptions
  • Post-Graduate qualifications in addiction, mental health or related field is desirable or willingness to undertake further training as required
  • Sound theoretical knowledge of biopsychosocial assessments and interventions in addiction and mental health. 
  • Experience and knowledge in a range of therapeutic models and interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
  • Ability to contribute to improving systems and protocols that ensure continuity of care across the service system.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with service users and professional referrers.
  • Ability to function effectively in a multi-disciplinary team. This is expected to include contributing discipline specific skills and perspectives to enhance the functioning of the SCS team.
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation and frameworks.
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional self-development and quality improvement by participating in clinical supervision, and other forms of on-going education. 
  • Incumbent required to undergo a National Criminal History Check.
  • Presents and performs in accordance to Eastern Health’s Values and Code of Conduct as well as Code of Ethics of relevant regulatory professional authority / professional association
  • Incumbent required to hold a current Working with Children Check valid for employment purposes.
