About the role:

The purpose of the Security Services Unit is to ensure the Forensic Services Centre is a safe and secure workplace through the provision of a range of Security services, including Fire Alarm monitoring, CCTV monitoring, reception duties and switchboard duties.

The Unit Leader is responsible for ensuring the effective performance of the Security Services Unit through supervision, training and mentoring and ensuring that the security of the Centre is maintained by the Security Services Unit staff through monitoring CCTV, Alarm systems & plant alarms.

As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include:

  • Day to day management of the Forensic Services Department's security functions including following up on incident reports and security access issues.
  • Monitor, supervise and undertake the administration and/or personnel functions of the Unit, providing motivation, mentoring, performance management and coordination of training activities to team members and externally contracted staff, as appropriate.
  • Oversee the Forensic Services Department's physical and electronic Security systems ensuring the maintenance schedule and ad hoc repairs are actioned in a timely manner to ensure the effective operations of all security measures are maintained.
  • Maintain the currency of the security access system for the Forensic Services Department, including liaising with relevant stakeholders for approving access privileges.
  • Perform a broad range of administrative and data analysis activities including the preparation of audit reports, correspondence, minutes, internal/external reports and briefings.
  • Act as Secretariat for the FSD Security Committee.
  • Assist the Facilities Unit as required including Test and Tag functions.

Skills & Experience

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing the day-to-day functions of a team in a highly secure environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, both verbally and in writing, including proven people management capabilities in effective conflict resolution and/or negotiation, continual improvement, and performance management.
  • Experience in the creation and maintenance of procedures and training manuals, along with the delivery of training in a small team environment.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod, Victoria.
  • Ongoing position available
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only).
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
